ABOUT THIS COFFEE AND PRODUCER

Tabaco Pata is situated in the Inkawasi district of Cusco, nestled at the foot of the sacred and spiritually significant APU Choqesafra mountain. Located at an extreme altitude rarely seen in other Peruvian coffee-growing regions, this estate produces beans that exhibit a truly unique and unmistakable terroir.

The soil is volcanic, rich in minerals and abundant organic matter, providing a superior and stable nutrient source for the coffee trees. From the estate, one can view the snow-capped peak of Choqesafra, surrounded by a breathtaking and pristine landscape.

The farm preserves rich native tree species and wild bird ecology, utilizing natural vegetation as a shade-grown system. This not only regulates the humidity necessary for growth but also continuously enriches the soil through fallen leaves, creating a healthy natural cycle. These geographical conditions allow the coffee from Juanito Navarro’s estate to possess vivid and unique flavor characteristics, establishing it as a hallmark specialty coffee of the Inkawasi region.

WHY WE SELECTED THIS COFFEE

We're excited to share another coffee from one of our favorite terroirs of the year. Peru has continued to surprise us with the quality and character coming out of this region, and this release is another reminder of why we've been so excited to explore it.

This is our first time working with Tabaco Pata, bringing in another washed SL9 grown at remarkable altitude with an incredible amount of care. The result is a coffee with exceptional sweetness and a distinctly red fruit-driven profile.

The first sip is immediately reminiscent of biting into a sweet hawthorn tanghulu, combining bright fruit with a crisp sugar-like sweetness. As the cup settles, it opens into a round, ripe nectarine that carries through the middle of the cup with a soft, juicy character.

A subtle cranberry note lingers in the finish, adding another layer of complexity without pulling the coffee away from its sweetness. It's another exciting expression of what this region in Peru has been capable of producing this harvest.
