ABOUT THIS COFFEE AND PRODUCER
This coffee was grown by Efrain Huaman on his farm, San Julia. Much like other farms in the Inkawasi region, San Julia sits at the foot of the spiritually significant mountain, APU Choqesafra. This mountain region is famous for its coffee terroir due to the high altitude of the local farms combined with the volcanic soil’s nutrients. San Julia also uses natural shade from native tree species to regulate the humidity required for stable coffee growth and to create a natural soil cycle from the falling leaves. This SL9 lot was first traditionally washed, then dried on raised African beds to preserve the unique terroir of San Julia.
WHY WE SELECTED THIS COFFEE
We're happy to work with another excellent producer in Peru, this time sharing a coffee from his farm, San Julia. This lot offers another perspective on the terroir of the Incawasi region, where we've continued to find an impressive range of profiles among the SL9s grown here.
The cup is very clean and carries many of the hallmarks we've come to appreciate from Incawasi, with several distinct fruit notes layered throughout. Ripe nectarine leads the profile, followed by a rounded pear sweetness and the crisp, juicy tropical character of starfruit.
Yellow florals weave throughout the cup, adding a delicate aromatic quality that complements the fruit. As the coffee cools, the different layers remain distinct and well defined, giving the cup a clean expression of the varietal and the terroir that shaped it.
