ABOUT THIS COFFEE AND PRODUCER
Dwight Aguilar is a third-generation coffee farmer from Santa Teresa, Cusco. His grandparents emigrated from the Apurimac region and settled in Santa Teresa during the era of the Roman family estate. The land Dwight now farms was acquired by his father, Timoteo Aguilar, during the 1969 Peruvian Land Reform — the moment when the phrase 'the land belongs to those who work it' became reality.
Born and raised among the mountains and coffee fields, Dwight has always understood coffee as both livelihood and legacy. In 2009, driven by a desire to improve his craft, he traveled to Villa Rica in Pasco — considered one of Peru's finest coffee-producing regions — where he gained the technical knowledge he would bring home to transform his family farm.
Through dedication, competition, and continuous refinement, Dwight has brought international recognition to Peruvian specialty coffee — and to Santa Teresa specifically. Dwight took first place in the Peru Cup of Excellence in both 2018 and 2021 while also placing 10th in 2020 and 5th in 2025. Today, his coffees stand as a testament to what passion, perseverance, and generational knowledge can produce.
WHY WE SELECTED THIS COFFEE
We're excited to work with Dwight Aguilar and Nueva Alianza for the first time, bringing another remarkable coffee from Peru to the lineup.
This lot is a Yellow Gesha, a rare natural mutation of Gesha that ripens with yellow cherries instead of red. It immediately stood out on the cupping table for its remarkable floral complexity and refined balance.
Magnolia and jasmine tea are present throughout the cup, giving the coffee a delicate aromatic quality from the first sip through the finish. A sweet orange note adds depth and brightness without overpowering the florals, while the soft, plump sweetness of longan introduces a subtle tropical character that quietly unfolds as the coffee cools.
It's a coffee that rewards paying attention to the smaller details, with each layer complementing the next rather than competing for attention.
