ABOUT THIS COFFEE AND PRODUCER

Approximately 500 smallholder producers in Kokose cultivate organically grown, sugar-rich, high-quality coffee cherries. This success can be attributed to the village's high elevation, favorable climate, and nutrient-rich soils across 1 to 2-hectare plots, which also support the cultivation of various food crops. For this specific lot, the cherries were sourced from a single farm operated by Solomon Hamiso.

These cherries are meticulously processed at the washing station, which for this natural lot involves density sorting, hand sorting on drying tables, and prolonged drying under the Ethiopian sun to achieve optimal moisture levels. Once processed, this coffee is dry-hulled, bagged, and transported to Addis Ababa for milling and export.

WHY WE SELECTED THIS COFFEE

This naturally processed lot from Ethiopia showcases the vibrant, berry-forward flavors we’ve all come to love from the region. While most Ethiopian coffees are blends from many smallholder farms processed at central washing stations, it’s always great to find a single farm lot with the extra clarity and traceability it brings. This late 2024 harvest from Solomon Hamiso is stunning, bursting with red grape highlights layered over classic big berry notes, all wrapped in a rich, creamy sweetness. It shines across all brew methods, but we especially love it as a light roast espresso — either on its own or with milk. Of course it still excels in all forms of pour over methods as well. At Moonwake, we have a definite soft spot for naturally processed Ethiopian coffees, and we hope you enjoy this one as much as we do in your daily brew!
