ABOUT THIS COFFEE AND PRODUCER
Jeferson Motta’s life has been rooted in coffee ever since his childhood. Growing up surrounded by coffee farms and family tradition, he developed a deep connection to the land and an early passion for coffee cultivation. From a young age, he dreamed of owning his own farm where he could bring his vision to life and craft coffee with care, precision, and identity. Today, with the support of his parents, that dream is a reality. His brand, Motta, is more than a name - it is a tribute to his family and a reflection of his roots.
We are proud to present Jeferson’s washed gesha in our nova line. For this washed gesha, Jeferson personally oversees each stage of the process. First, cherries are given a very gentle aerobic fermentation. The cherries are then placed in sealed containers for 24 hours to allow proper sugar development. Finally, the coffee is dried on raised beds for 18 to 20 days.
WHY WE SELECTED THIS COFFEE
We’re excited to work with Jeferson Motta for the first time and to share this coffee from Motta Farm in Colombia. It’s a well grown Gesha that’s been taken in a more experimental direction through a mix of aerobic and anaerobic fermentations, landing in some genuinely interesting flavor territory without feeling overworked.
The cup shows candied flavors, but in a cleaner and more restrained way than what you often find in heavier fermentation styles. What stands out to us is how much of the Gesha’s varietal and regional character remains intact. The processing adds a creamy body and a gentle candied sweetness without dominating the coffee itself.
Early aromas and flavors lean red, with candied strawberry and a soft, lightly herbal sweetness that recalls hawflake candy. That transitions into a sweet orange citrus note as the cup opens up. As it cools, deeper red florals come forward in a hibiscus like form, tying everything together into a complex but cohesive hybrid profile that feels thoughtful and well balanced.
