ABOUT THIS COFFEE AND PRODUCER

This lot comes from the Jaramillo farm within Hacienda La Esmeralda’s estates. The Jaramillo farm has conditions that are perfect for growing Gesha due to its naturally cold and wet air. The famous 2004 Gesha lot that re-introduced the world to the varietal’s high cup quality was grown on this farm. The incredibly steep 40 degree incline and rolling hills of the region make the harvest of lots extremely challenging, but well worth the effort since many of The Peterson Family’s top performing lots come from this farm.

This lot was selected from a region on Jaramillo named “Bosque”. The cherries in this lot were first pre-dried for 2 days outside on raised beds. Then, they were fermented for 4 days in a stainless steel anaerobic tank within a cold fermentation room. Finally, the coffee was dried in the estate’s climate-controlled drying room for 41 days.

WHY WE SELECTED THIS COFFEE

We're thrilled to present another recent harvest from one of the world's most famous coffee families, the Peterson family of Hacienda La Esmeralda. This lot comes from the legendary Jaramillo farm, the part of their estate where the Gesha varietal first gained international recognition and helped put Panamanian coffee on the world stage.

This natural is a great example of how much expression can come from carefully controlled cold fermentation. The process is exceptionally precise, resulting in a complex, fruit-forward cup that still maintains the clarity and definition we look for in the world's best Geshas.

The cup opens with well-defined Crown melon, accompanied by layers of honeysuckle florals. As it develops, tropical yellow dragonfruit adds another layer of sweetness and acidity that keeps the cup profile complex and endlessly interesting.

It's an impressive cup from start to finish especially with that rare Crown melon note. Another beautiful expression of the work coming out of Hacienda La Esmeralda.
