ABOUT THIS COFFEE AND PRODUCER

We are excited to bring on another lot from multi-year Best of Panama Winner Hacienda La Esmeralda. This washed gesha comes from the Guabo lot on Hacienda La Esmeralda’s El Velo farm. El Velo is one of Hacienda La Esmeralda’s newest farms and is the only one that allows uniform planting in rows. Here, the Peterson Family grows mostly Gesha and Catuai as well as more exotic varieties like Laurina, Pacamara and SL-34.

The processing code “FC” in the lot name stands for cold fermentation washed with climate controlled drying. Specifically, after being harvested at their ripest point, the cherries are depulped and fermented at 16’C in stainless steel tanks for 72 hours. The lot was then dried for 20 days in Hacienda La Esmeralda’s climate controlled drying facility that has constant airflow and precise temperature and humidity control.

WHY WE SELECTED THIS COFFEE

We’re excited to share a second coffee from the one and only Esmeralda—this time a washed Gesha from the Guabo lot.

There’s always something special about working with coffees from this farm. Year after year, it continues to set the bar for what Gesha can be, with a level of clarity and expression that’s hard to match. It’s part of what makes each new lot feel genuinely exciting to taste and share.

The cold ferment washed process keeps the cup exceptionally clean and lets that prized terroir come through. There’s incredible definition on a sweet tangerine note, layered with jasmine florals throughout.

Each sip brings a ripe white peach rounded juiciness, alongside a subtle, creamy tropical note that leans toward mangosteen. It’s a nuanced, complex profile that still feels elegant and composed.

A beautiful example of why this farm remains one of the most sought after in the world.
