ABOUT THIS COFFEE AND PRODUCER
El Paraiso is a village in the Huabal district. Aptly named 'paradise', the village centre is atop a small mountain with beautiful vistas in every direction, sitting at 2000masl. Producers in this village mostly grow caturra, bourbon and catimor, mixed together, and the farms are located around the village centre and between 1800 and 2050 meters above sea-level.
WHY WE SELECTED THIS COFFEE
It's been a particularly strong year for Peru's harvest, and that quality extends even into the darker roast profiles we've been enjoying. This lot comes from El Paraiso and offers a different side of what we've been finding in Peru this year.
This field blend brings together varietals known for their cocoa-forward qualities, paired with a carefully controlled natural fermentation. The combination produces a deeply rich profile that works especially well as a dark roast, with plenty of character remaining beneath the roast development.
The cup is dominated by dark chocolate truffle, with a dense sweetness and rich texture that carries throughout. Alongside the chocolate is a soft pistachio creaminess that adds a subtle nuttiness to add more dimension.
The finish adds a fruit-driven layer, with a concentrated black cherry jam character that lingers well after the sip. It's a dark roast with the depth and richness you'd expect, while still retaining the distinct fruit and processing character of the coffee.
