ABOUT THIS COFFEE AND PRODUCER
The El Dorado Coffee Farm located in Loja-Ecuador was bought in 2017 by The Elder family boys and their father. The Elders together with Bernard Uhe of Choco Vilco Mundo (CVM) worked together to grow almonds and then later decided to grow coffee instead. CVM is an Ecuadorian agricultural company owned by Bernard Uhe and his coffee growing family from Colombia. After finding the best seeds The Elder Family and CVM started growing award winning specialty coffee plants.
The El Dorado specialty coffee farm is managed by the CVM family that comes from generations of coffee growers in the province of Ibague, Colombia. Together with the Ecuadorians who know the land, they grow high elevation award-winning coffee in the Ecuadorian Andes. El Dorado has placed in both the 2021 and 2022 Cup of Excellence as well as the 2022 and 2023 Ecuador Golden Cup.
This Gesha lot from El Dorado is first fermented for 1 day in cherry. Then, it is peeled and fermented anaerobically for 5 more days in parchment. Finally, it is dried in a greenhouse over raised beds for at least 21 days.
WHY WE SELECTED THIS COFFEE
We're excited to work with Bernard Uhe & the Elder Family again, this time on a spectacular Gesha from El Dorado. Bernard's coffees have become some of our favorite expressions of what modern Ecuadorian coffee can be, and this lot immediately stood out on the cupping table.
The cup is packed with tropical fruit and florals. Tangy kiwi and sweet dragonfruit lead the profile, creating a juicy sweetness that feels vibrant without becoming overwhelming. As the coffee cools, a refreshing lemonade-like character begins to emerge, bringing brightness and lift to the cup.
The florals become more apparent with each sip, reminding us of peach trees in full blossom. Combined with the layered tropical fruit, they give the coffee a sense of freshness and elegance that lingers long after the cup is finished.
