ABOUT THIS COFFEE AND PRODUCER
We reached out to Deiro Garcia of Finca Lord Voldemort’s to see if he would be willing to send us samples of his other lots and processes. Out of the many that he sent to us, this gesha stood out on the cupping table. Despite the processing being a traditional method, the environment this gesha was grown in is what truly makes it unique. The coffee trees in this lot are co-planted with lemongrass. These lemongrass plants are fragrant enough to cause mild cross-aroma influence on the coffee trees.
For the processing, ripe cherries are first selectively harvested and floated to remove impurities. They undergo a 24-hour oxidation stage to ensure even ripeness. After that, the cherries are pulped and placed in a traditional tank for an additional 18 hours of oxidation, followed by a controlled fermentation in sealed containers for up to 24 hours to preserve the classic Gesha profile without adding any infusions or flavorings. The coffee is then rinsed twice and dried for a period of 10 days.
WHY WE SELECTED THIS COFFEE
This is our second time working with Finca Lord Voldemort, and this lot caught our attention right away. It’s the first time we’ve noticed such a clear aromatic influence from coffee that was simply grown near another plant.
The cup is highly floral with some unusual, almost surprising aromatics, all supported by a clean, classic Colombian Gesha backbone. It opens with sparkly peach-soda brightness and ripe mango, then shifts into a spearmint note with soft lavender florals as it cools.
We also just thought it would be fun to share more of what Finca Lord Voldemort is producing. This one is a little strange, very enjoyable, and we hope you like it as much as we do.
