ABOUT THIS COFFEE AND PRODUCER

From Alo Coffee:

Once uniformly ripe cherries arrive at our station, they are immediately laid out on African drying beds, where they are carefully dried over an average of 27 days. To ensure even drying, our team turns the cherries every hour and covers them with shade between 12–3 PM daily to protect them from direct sunlight. When the cherries reach a moisture level of 10–11%, they are sealed in GrainPro bags to enhance and preserve their aroma. The coffee is then stored in jute bags and rested for a minimum of 45 days before dry milling.

WHY WE SELECTED THIS COFFEE

We’re excited to return to collaboration with Tamiru and the Alo team—this time celebrating a natural process coffee that highlights just how versatile his farms can be. After the joy of connecting in person at the SCA Expo and tasting the incredible washed lot, we knew we had to explore more of his exceptional offerings.

This second release is a natural-processed Ethiopian that’s full of personality and complexity. On the cup, it sings with juicy raspberry, bright limoncello, and the subtle depth of red grape. While our first Alo washed lot offered stunning florals, this one skews towards complex berries and citrus with a strong sparkly acidity. Subtle florals and velvety wine notes come in and out of the cup as it cools which adds to the fun experience.

We’re thrilled to continue building our partnership with Tamiru and Alo. While year-round access to these coffees is still on the horizon, each purchase brings us closer to that vision. Sharing this natural-processed lot with you feels like a true celebration of the versatility and artistry coming out of Tamiru’s farms.
