ABOUT THIS COFFEE AND PRODUCER

This coffee is a natural processed bourbon - with carefully monitored aeration and sun exposure, allowing the sugars to concentrate in the bean.  The coffee was dried between 22 to 30 days, stabilizing the humidity and preventing over fermentation and proliferation of fungi.

Finca Liquidámbar is a family-owned coffee production business that has been in operation for over 20 years, named after the diverse Liquidambar trees on its plantations. Located at an altitude of 1,550 meters, the finca spans 25 hectares, with five hectares of preserved natural forest that contributes to the local ecosystem. The farm focuses on high-quality coffee production, growing varieties like Catuai, Caturra, Red and Yellow Bourbon, and others. The coffee is processed using various methods such as Honey, anaerobic, natural, and washed processes, with drying taking place in solar dryers or African beds. The region's tropical climate supports biodiversity and offers both rainy and dry seasons.

Roberto, was one of the first in his community to earn a business administration degree, and returned home to manage RAOS and his family's coffee farm. He is working to have 20 hectares of the farm recognized as a nature reserve and aims to turn it into a tourist destination. Finca Liquidámbar employs 10 people year-round and 30 during the harvest. Roberto, his wife Odalma, and their children, Alma Giselle and Emerson Neptalí, collaborate with schools on coffee education initiatives.

WHY WE SELECTED THIS COFFEE

This is an incredibly special coffee for us, as we had worked with Roberto last year early on in the start of our roasting journey.  This coffee has us reflecting on our journey thus far to building our café roastery, and the incredible partners such as Roberto who have helped us grow to this point.  We had the pleasure of reconnecting with him at Expo in Chicago this year – having first met last year in Portland.

We selected this natural bourbon for its rich chocolatey sweetness and deep body, which makes an incredibly delightful and comforting coffee.  We’re so excited to share his coffee with you, and hope we represent his immense care and dedication well.
