ABOUT THIS COFFEE AND PRODUCER

From the Coffee Quest website:

Finca La Bendicion is located in the Dipilto-Jalapa mountain range in Nueva Segovia, Nicaragua and consist of 105 acres planted with coffee. Of those 105 acres in coffee, Luis Alberto, the manager, grows the a handful of varieties, like Caturra, Red Catuai, Hybrids, Villa Sarchi, Pacamara, Maracaturra, H-3, Marselleza, SL-34 and Java. Finca La Bendición has a loose sandy soil, with abundant humus and has an annual rainfall of between 1,400 and 1,600mm.

The care and processing that goes into every lot is second to none, with careful detail at every stage. This Honey lot starts by bringing the cherries to the wet mill after careful picking. They are then floated and de-pulped and immediately taken to Beneficio Las Segovias to be laid on African Beds to dry for 21 to 25 days. For the Naturals, the coffee also undergo careful picking, is then floated and also taken to Beneficio Las Segovias to be laid on African beds to dry for between 25-30 days.

Luis Alberto received 6th place in the COE this year, 3rd place in the COE in 2022, 6th place in 2021, 1st place in 2020, 1st and 5th place in 2018, as well as 3rd and 13th place in 2017.  He is no stranger to producing exceptional coffees! This is our sixth year working with Luis Alberto and every year his coffees are amongst the most fun that we work with!

WHY WE SELECTED THIS COFFEE

We are always on the lookout for coffees with exceptional characteristics for modern dark roasts. This natural Pacamara of high quality presents an abundance of acidity that transforms into high sweetness just as it enters dark roast level. The body is much higher than normal and transforms into a really pleasant dark chocolate with creamy nougat notes. The extra long caramelizing roast really helps this coffee boost it’s rich nutty flavors with a hint of malic acidity that really shines especially in milk beverages. We hope you give it a try!
