ABOUT THIS COFFEE AND PRODUCER
This coffee is an anaerobic washed-processed gesha. During harvest, coffee cherries are picked manually and selected only at their most optimal point of ripeness. They are then floated to separate higher quality cherries by density before going through the pulping and fermentation processes. The best beans are washed with sanitized water and drained for subsequent processes. In the fermentation processes, parameters such as temperature, brix degrees, pH and the environment where the fermentation occurs are controlled. Fermentation is controlled and carried out in stainless steel tanks, under anaerobic conditions.
This coffee was produced by José Ignacio Gómez Lopez of Finca Los Angeles, from the Nariño region of Colombia. José is no stranger to producing excellently clean washed geshas — having placed 20th in Colombia’s Cup of Excellence in 2022, for his washed gesha. He is a second generation producer in his family, alongside his brother Franco. He is a pioneer in the planting and production of specialty coffees in the municipality of Buesaco, having planted over 3,000 gesha trees thus far. Their farm has a history of over 9 years cultivating the gesha variety, after it brought over seeds from Panama. Continual experimentation and implementation of innovative technologies are used in post-harvest processes; controlling the processes of fermentation, drying and storage of grains. The resulting coffees from their utmost care and attention are deliciously clean “terroir-forward” coffees. Their dedication and efforts in growing coffee has also contributed to other coffee growers in the region being able to follow the path of high specialty and participate in foreign markets.

WHY WE SELECTED THIS COFFEE
We’re revamping our citrus lineup to include even more stellar fruit-forward coffees with a focus on maximum quality at an affordable price and casting a much wider net for producers that may not be as well known in our area. We chose this coffee as our first offering in our newly named “fruit-forward” lineup – it’s one of our most elegantly complex (formerly known as citrus) fruit-forward expressions we’ve offered yet. This coffee is teeming with jasmine notes and citrus that are distinctive and celebrated of the gesha varietal, and is such a delight to brew and enjoy. With higher extractions you can expect complex acidity that blend citrus and cherry notes together in with lovely balance. We think this will set a new bar for the types of coffees that will start showing up in this line up.
